How It's Made

My daughter and husband love watching the show “How It’s Made”, so I thought I’d share a bit about how our personalized pendants are made. All of the personalized pendants are made using a really cool product called precious metal clay. It is pure silver with an organic binder, that is baked in a kiln, and the result are the pendants you see. We do not use precut shapes to make our pendants, each one is made completely by hand. Here’s a photo of some pendants just prior to going into the kiln (to bake at toasty 1650 degrees). After spending some quality time in the kiln, the pieces come out a white chalky color and cool off for a while. Then the next process begins and each piece gets a good brushing with a brass brush to bring up the silver. That is followed with lots of sanding, darkening of the letters, some steel wool and then a tumble in the polisher. They have quite a lot to do before they are sent out to the customers!
