How It's Made

My daughter and husband love watching the show “How It’s Made”, so I thought I’d share a bit about how our personalized pendants are made. All of the personalized pendants are made using a really cool product called precious metal clay. It is pure silver with an organic binder, that is baked in a kiln, and the result are the pendants you see. We do not use precut shapes to make our pendants, each one is made completely by hand. Here’s a photo of some pendants just prior to going into the kiln (to bake at toasty 1650 degrees). This is what they look like after they have been shaped, personalized, dried, and sanded, sanded and sanded some more. They have a putty type color at this stage…

After spending some quality time in the kiln, the pieces come out a white chalky color and cool off for a while. Then the next process begins and each piece gets a good brushing with a brass brush to bring up the silver. That is followed with lots of sanding, darkening of the letters, some steel wool and then a tumble in the polisher. They have quite a lot to do before they are sent out to the customers!
